Project Description. Vitalant exists to help people realize their life-transforming potential by offering convenient blood donation opportunities and sharing their expertise in transfusion medicine. They comprise a network of nearly a dozen community blood centers, each with its own rich history and legacy. Vitalant is an internationally known and respected leader that continues to push the boundaries to advance the experience, practice, and application of transfusion medicine. The design goal of this new headquarters facility was to provide a collaborative, fresh and comprehensive environment that not only included its HQ functional spaces but also included its call center function. The office was designed with a very neutral pallet while new brand colors, as well as warm woods, were introduced to reflect a sophisticated, understated environment. Graphics and user-friendly technology were also incorporated to portray the Vitalant story while providing modern day interfaces for clients and visitors. The HQ programmatically took on a mix of open workstation and office environments to fit the specific requirements of the population while always providing as much connection to daylight and views for all occupants. This project had an extremely fast time line for a deliverable.

My Role. Working with my interior design collogue, we had 3 weeks to create an entire concept and design for this space. We built an entire 3D SketchUp model, applied materials and finishes, rendered fly throughs and still imagery and presented the entire project to the Vitalant executive board. Along with completing this design. We then had another 3 weeks to create an almost complete construction document set for pricing.

the experience | guest donor perspective

As users enter the space, they come into a reception area that presents a color gradient branding design. Within this color changing display, there are historical imagery and information to tell the story of Vitalant and where it started - to where it is now. With an iPad check in, guests can peacefully wait in the lobby and be guided into the secondary waiting area outside the main meeting rooms.

These renders can show all the spaces that any guest of the space may have access too. With Vitalant branding colors of blue and purple throughout, added tones of wood for warmth, and sleek surfaces of stone and concrete create a clean sophisticated space throughout.

the experience | executive suite

The executive suite is lined with conference rooms and executive offices. We added a small touch of branding in the vinyl window wrap for privacy on each office and meeting space. I created this graphic of Vitalant's logo seen below. This band becomes a crucial design move that happens throughout the space with graphics.

the experience | employee

We wanted the employee experience to be bold and full of vibrancy. Meeting rooms have accent paint and huge acoustical pendants. The break room is a lively space,  accommodating many options for seating and enough space for all staff meetings.

LEVEL 02 -FLOORPLAN.png

This central hub for socializing and leisure becomes a destination spot with opportunity for relief, or even a different type of place to work. With some bold design moves, such as the black trellis to break up the space or the standing booths giving some added privacy to causal meetings or individual work. This area becomes a focal point for the whole building. In this deck of renders above, I have also included other spaces throughout that carry through the bold colors and branding of this new environment. Below is another fly through that shows a glimpse of the open office areas.

These strings that you first see are an art installation I designed using paracords. There are three locations in the space that implement this installation. You can see below for more clear view of the concept, you can also check out the link at the bottom of the page to our construction set to see how I intend for this to be installed.

material selection

my colleague and I spent three weeks drafting this construction document set . click here to view it.

We created these physical material boards to give to the client. you can see some of the finishes and where they are placed within the rendered spaces. Each of these materials were specified for the construction document to be priced.
