Project Name. Taiping Financial Towers

Project Location. Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

Project Type. Ground Up Build / Example Tenant Fit Out

Project Description. Designed for China Taiping Financial Group, Taiping Financial Tower draws its inspiration from the historical humanities and geographical elements of Hangzhou province where the project is located. The unique gardens, tea fields and tea leaf of Hangzhou become the basic elements of the design. The layout of the site resembles a butterfly, inspired by Hangzhou's cultural card "Butterfly Lovers". The buildings dynamic shapes reflect the terraced tea fields of the region, while the floor plan design is in the shapes of a parallelogram abstracted from the tea lead. The typical floor plan is generally square, with approximately 900 - 2700 square meters per floor. The central core makes the office space efficient and regular, and the floor efficiency high. The standard floor is 4.2 meters high, providing a more comfortable office space and higher quality office space.

Objective. To develop the interior design of the second floor leasing office, canteen [break room], building core restrooms, and elevator lobby. Also, to design an entire tenant floor to show potential renters/buyer the opportunity within the space and square footage.

core restroom & elevator lobby

For the core elements, the clients wanted to see two options with a variance in the materials and design of the spaces. You can see how simple changes in the materiality can create a new look and feel to each option.

the canteen

The Canteen design was to represent what the typical break room and servery would look like in each building. Taking over an entire floor, this was a simple design, inspired by the architectural curves of the building and core, replicating it into the servery façade.

example tenant floor

I was given the freedom to just design and space plan this entire floor as an example of a tenant space. Going of the initial design concepts for the building, inspired by tea fields, I created a layout for the workplace of a tea company.
